IgM is the first antibody the immune system produces to fight a new infection. Consequently, when a person does not have enough IgM, the body can struggle to fight off infections.

As a result, Yacine is very weak and frequently prone to infections. He remains bedridden, depriving him of a normal life.
Yacine frequently suffers from sinus and lung infections. He is highly susceptible to bacterial infections.
Many children pass away before puberty, and those who live longer often develop cirrhosis or lymphoma.
Treatment includes antibiotics to prevent infections and white blood cell transfusions, but a stem cell transplant is the only effective treatment.
Without this procedure, Yacine will not survive. His condition is severely impaired; he no longer walks because he tires quickly, and he avoids crowded places for fear of contracting serious infectious diseases.
His life is full of constraints.
